I think that this blog is becoming more and more personal in content, and I just felt like a bit nervous knowing that some colleagues now sometime drop by here reading my corny postings, and even the manager does, (hi hello bos!:p). So for not making this thing even sillier and sillier, I would like now to share an article I just read recently. So here it is:
10 Ways to Prevent Skin Cancer
(by: Jessie Sholl)
With a few simple changes to your regular routine, you can help decrease your odds of ever developing skin cancer. Try the following practical, prevention-focused tips:
1. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen
Never forget the daily use of a sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 15 and always be sure to reapply every two hours when you're out.
2. Avoid peak hoursThe harmful UV rays of the sun are strongest when it's directly overhead (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.), so do your best to avoid sun exposure during those times.
3. Wear a hatHats are an easy way to protect yourself from the sun, aren't they?:)
4. Skip the tanning bedFor we Indonesian girl, tanning bed doesn't sound so cool, right?;p
5. Wear protective clothingWow, I just know that not all clothing provides the same benefits for our skin! for example: A white T-shirt only provides the equivalent protection of a sunscreen with an SPF of 4.
6. Shield your eyesSkin cancer can affect the eyes as well, creating a condition known as
ocular skin cancer, so better protect yourself, choose wraparound-style sunglass frames that cover the delicate skin around the eyes,
7. Protect your lipsOh really, we are recommended to use balms and lipsticks with an SPF of 30?! and for sure, don't forget to reapply every few hours and especially after eating!
8. Check for moles oftenLook for a
change in moles, particularly a new black mole or a change in outline, shape, size, color, or feel. It's a good idea to take pictures or notes. If you notice any changes, see your doctor right away.
9. Be careful of reflected sunlight, tooDirect sunlight isn't the only culprit. Ultraviolet (UV) rays that reflect off of water, sand, concrete, and bright-white painted areas can also damage your skin — and cause skin cancer
10. Avoid getting sunburnedThe damage a UV burn does to your skin can rear its head years or decades later in the form of skin cancer. Wew!
